IFCF Supports British Lung Foundation IPF Grant Award

Every year in the UK around 5,000 more people will be diagnosed with IPF(Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) . This number is increasing each year and there’s no clear reason why. With the support of IFCF, the British Lung Foundation  have launched their IPF research grant round. This grant round will be available to medically qualified applicants, post-doctoral scientists or allied health professionals for clinical, laboratory and/or epidemiological research where appropriate. The Project Grant award of up to £135,000 will enable researchers to undertake a significant project.

There’s much that we don’t currently understand about IPF – it’s not clear what causes it, and there is currently no cure. While several treatments can slow the rate of lung scarring and how IPF progresses, they do not slow the scarring in everyone. There are currently no treatments that can stop or reverse the scarring of the lungs. This is why IPF is one of the British Lung Foundation’s five priority research areas.

BLF support and work with some of the best scientists and healthcare professionals in the world based in the UK. They have been able to fund the brightest and best scientists, ensuring they have a strong supply of world-class researchers who can solve the challenges posed by all lung conditions including COVID-19 and IPF, today and in the future.
