Iceland Foods Northern Ireland raised funds for NI Children’s Hospice

For many families, receiving a life-limiting diagnosis for their child can be scary, overwhelming and isolating. Children’s hospices might seem frightening or unfamiliar initially, but they’re vibrant places filled with colour, joy and most importantly, compassion.

Iceland Foods Northern Ireland raised funds from the 24th of September across 35 Iceland stores and 2 Food Warehouses to support Horizon House so they can continue to provide excellent care to children of all ages. Horizon House, the NI Hospice Children’s In-Patient Unit, is the only service of its kind in Northern Ireland that cares for babies to teenagers who require support at the end of their lives. Other services include specialist nursing care at home, supported breaks in our In-Patient Unit, end-of-life care and family and bereavement support. They also work in partnership with the NHS to support parents with our antenatal care service, Tiny Horizons.

Tasked with fundraising in their respective stores, Iceland Foods NI colleagues have planned various events to help raise as much money as possible. Ron Metcalfe, Managing Director at Iceland Foods Northern Ireland, commented: “We are delighted to partner with the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice. These pivotal services bring much-needed empathy and compassion into the lives of children and families in our community. We are thrilled to be fundraising for Horizon House across our 37 stores.”

From five-a-side football games to in-store bake sales, the Iceland team are determined to make an impact. A combined donation of £2,718.50 could provide funding for 48 hours of dedicated care for a child in the Children’s In-Patient Unit, covering Horizon House and their home, while a donation of £4,166.47 could cover the expenses for seven days of specialised palliative care within the 18-bed In-Patient Unit, ensuring comfort and support for those in need.

Kelly Roulston, Corporate Fundraiser at NI Hospice, said: “A huge and heartfelt thanks to our partner Iceland Foods Northern Ireland and to everyone taking part across the country in so many amazing fundraising events. Your generous support for NI Children’s Hospice will enable us to continue providing our specialist palliative care to babies, infants, children, and their families.
